DENNIS WILKINS

I see beauty of many forms of life from lichen and moss on rocks to insects, mammals and birds, to grasses, flowers and trees.
Beautiful scenes are all around us, from great vistas to details in the smallest views. I have been making photographs for over seventy years, from childhood with a Kodak Brownie, to school years with various film cameras, and my introduction to the darkroom and making prints. I’ve continued capturing images wherever I’ve traveled, progressing from film to digital capture in the early 2000's.

I grew up on the US west coast and in the far east until university studies in electronics engineering. I worked for much of my career as an engineer, and at times as a commercial photographer and videographer, producing product shots for ads and corporate reports, making portraits, filming and photographing weddings, stage plays and sports events. But my greatest passion is capturing the beauty and patterns of nature.

I make my own prints since, in the words of American landscape photographer/musician Ansel Adams, the negative (original digital image file today) is the score, but the print is the performance. A fine print is an expression of the photographer’s vision of the world, and unlike a snapshot, often requires meticulous adjustments and alterations to show what was felt at the moment the exposure was made. It has been said that art is an affirmation of life, and with my images I attempt to show the beauty of many forms of life from lichen and moss on rocks to insects, mammals and birds, to grasses, flowers and trees. I hope you will enjoy the small sample of my work on display at Sanderosa Art Gallery.

I welcome you to email me with any questions or just to discuss my work.
