MARK HOWES

Mark Howes

When I paint, I create an impression of what that moment in time feels like to me.
I have spent most of my life, including my youth, working with livestock, primarily Horses and Cattle. From wrangling horses for a Guest Ranch in Grand Lake Colorado to driving teams of horses, roping, raising registered Texas Longhorns and registered Quarter Horses on our family ranch in Kaycee Wyoming.
I started the Double H Ranch Saddle Shop on our ranch in Wyoming. We moved the Saddle Shop and our home to Fort Collins in 1985. The past 50 years my work has included building working cowboy gear, saddles, chaps, holsters and everything the working cowboy would need.
All my life I have enjoyed art! I have made clay sculptures of horses and cattle and cowboys turning some into bronze sculptures. Sketching, drawing, oil painting as well as carving designs, figures, flowers, people and animals into the saddles and cowboy gear.
My wife and I have been doing plein air painting for the past 20 years. We set up our easels and oil paint at some location outdoors and paint what we find around us.
