Venice Street in the Rain
Steve is a geologist who has worked in various places around the world, mostly studying desert dunes. His art journey began with field sketches of outcrops for his geological studies. He started making formal art works after he took watercolor classes in Scotland in 1999.
He also studied with Gary Swimmer, who taught at Pratt Institute in New York. He has been painting for about 25 years. His art journey has included a wide selection of subjects and places, including castles in Scotland, sand dunes in Oman, and street scenes in Holland and Tucson.

Artists who have influenced his work include JMW Turner, Henri Matisse, Giorgio Morandi, Milton Avery and David Hockney. He currently works in both watercolor and oil, mostly painting scenes around Fort Collins.
