MARTY THARP

Focusing on beautiful people, places and things

Composition and light are central to my photos. But mostly, I want everyone to see the beauty that surrounds us. In Colorado especially, but no matter where we are, there is beauty if we only look. I hope I have been able to capture that in some of my photos.

I started sharing photos in shows and galleries after I retired from my teaching career at Colorado State University’s Department of Technical Journalism in 1999. Since then, I found I enjoyed our many travels best with a camera in hand. I joined the Northern Colorado Artists Association and enjoyed the support and encouragement of other local artists.

I am self-taught, learning by doing and learning from my own experience. I use a digital camera but make few changes in my photos.

Before moving to Fort Collins in 1988 with my husband Ken, I had a long career as a journalist, reporter, writer and editor.  I served on the Fort Collins City Council 2001-2005.

With most of my photographs, I crop out the people. But sometimes it's the people I focus on.

See more of my "people " photos at the gallery this month.
